What Do You Do With Your Air Fryer?

We literally wore out our first air fryer and just purchased the one above, which has 2 separate cooking zones and twice as much cooking space as our first. We’re very excited and have already used it multiple times in the few days that we’ve owned it.

So why do we love the air fryer so much and what can you do with yours, if you’re not already using it?

I’m writing this post because some of my clients still don’t know what to do with their air fryers. Understanding the unit may help with this but I’ll also provide some recipes to give your some ideas as well as our reasons for loving it so much.

An air fryer is essentially a mini convection oven that sits on your countertop. When you cook food in it, a fan circulates air from the heating element to create a crisp outside to your food while maintaining a moist center.

It’s healthier than actually frying anything because you’re either putting the food directly into the unit with whatever seasoning you want on it and / or adding a light spray of olive oil to the food.

But I already have a convection oven you say. Why do I need an air fryer?

You technically don’t. Your convection oven and air fryer do the same things, EXCEPT

  • An air fryer is a smaller, self contained unit that uses less electricity than your oven.

  • Food comes out crispier in the air fryer, in a shorter amount of time. This is again due to the smaller size of the unit … kind of like an “easy bake oven” but way better.

  • You never have to remember to turn off your air fryer. It works from a timer and shuts itself off once the timer goes off.

  • You can cook just about any vegetable, meat, fish and some desserts in your air fryer and it’s a great way to reheat leftovers, especially if you want them to be a little bit crispy once they’re heated up (e.g., leftover pizza!)

  • You can cook a whole dinner in your air fryer with minimal effort and they’re super easy to clean.

Here are some of our favorite recipes in the air fryer:

Chicken Thighs

Cajun Shrimp

Homemade French Fries

Vegetables

Spicy Tofu

Kale Chips

We also regularly make salmon, burgers, white fish, brussel sprouts, sweet potato fries, among other things in the air fryer, but I haven’t posted these recipes yet.

We gave up our microwave some time ago and almost always use the air fryer to reheat leftovers.

We definitely still use our stove top and our oven, but the air fryer has just become a super convenient way to cook food without having to supervise the cooking. You essentially set it and forget it.

There’s really very little that you can’t do with it, but the first step is taking it out of the box.

Action Step:

  • If you have an air fryer that you haven’t been using but want to, pick one recipe and try it out. You might just be surprised by how easy and even kind of fun it can be!
