Grounds for Sculpture

We were on vacation recently and found this place just outside of Princeton, NJ. If you enjoy walking outside and looking at art, the Grounds for Sculpture is a must see, but don’t worry, if you’re not interested in going, you can still see some of the cool sculptures right here!

It’s over 40 acres of art, including many giant sculptures that are very lifelike, some that are more modern art, and countless scenes of very real looking people posed as famous works of arts (often with an additional sculpture of the original artist painting the scene).

It becomes very entertaining when you see real people sitting on benches or standing next to the human-sized sculptures because it’s hard to tell them apart!

Here are some of our favorites from the trip.

The “painter” is another sculpture. The dad and his son are real!

Carey’s checking out their poker hands to see who’s going to win.

This is a miniature scene tucked into a path through the woods.

There were various scenes like this all over the grounds that looked like real people until you were close enough to see they were actually sculptures.

And yes, there were several live peacocks wandering the grounds.

We were there for 3 hours and saw about 90% of the art before we ran out of steam. There’s a top-rated restaurant on site that requires reservations. That would have allowed a nice break between looking at art but our timing didn’t work out.

They also had lighted night-time exhibits that looked pretty amazing. Highly recommend this place to get some exercise while looking at amazing art, if that’s fun for you!
